New Devotional: Advent Gifts

This post is about my new Advent devotional for purchase over at Etsy. If you are looking for free or low cost Advent resources, check out last year’s post or this section of the website.

Surprise! Today I launched a new product in my Etsy store,  Advent Gifts: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. In this printable, 9-page devotional designed for families with children in elementary school age and younger, you will find a weekly reading, prayer, and activity. Remembering that the magi, or wisemen, brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the Christ child we will practice giving and receiving God’s gifts of hope, peace, joy, and love.

Each weekly activity is presented as a gift to open related to the weekly Advent theme. The gift box is then repurposed to share a gift of hope, peace, joy, and love with others. It is my hope that these devotions offer a moment of family faith time in a full season and an opportunity to reframe discussions around gift giving rooted in God’s gifts to us.

In addition to the devotional and printables (designed for 8.5 x 11 inch paper), you will need 5 small (4×4 inch or so) gift boxes to package each of the weekly activities to open,  a rock, glue, scissors, crayons, and a piece of chalk. There’s a printable breath prayer or you can purchase breath prayer stickers designed by my daughter.

Whenever I create a devotional I try to:

  • Make something that families with people of multiple ages will enjoy together
  • Keep the story of God central
  • Use simple, tangible, reusable, and earth-friendly materials to engage with the theme
  • Be mindful of busy family schedules

I’m especially pleased that this devotional offers families a way to talk about gift-giving in the context of our faith. This devotional is available in my Etsy shop for individual or whole church use.
